Misunderstanding what "light weight for high reps" really is. 15 reps of DB curls with 80 pound DBs will likely beef up your arms, 15 reps @ 20 pounds won't do a whole lot.
Take home point: You need to be strong enough to move good weight before your body will want to put on more muscle to move it more times.

Ditto to what Rich said about Not keeping a log or journal, it very key IMHO!!!
Also, not following or having a program to follow. One of my high school female clients was training chest 3 times a week, because her older brother told her to!!! |

I noticed a lot of guys were more interested in lifting heavy than correcting their form.
I think form should be the major concern in the beginning. Once thats been mastered, concentrate on adding weight. |
