I eat a pretty big meal before I work out and am good to go in about an hour. If I am doing cardio though I like to wait about 1:30-2 hours before sprinting.

I don't like to workout on a full stomach. At most I have a banana and a shake 60-90 minutes prior to lifting. When I was young I ate quite a bit a couple hours before lifting.
Some of it is age and metabolism-based.

I find as I get older (I'm 35 now) I am less bothered about eating before I train.
I used to subscribe fanatically to having a meal 1.5 hours before training. Now I often set PR's training with an empty stomach, although I usually have some BCAA's in water whilst training. |

I usually train in a semi fasted state. I might have a protein shake or something small like a banana, but most often nothing. I have tried both ways, but find I do better not having anything heavy before training. That is just me.

I will often have a big bowl of Cap'n Crunch about 15 minutes before squats. Energy fuels the squats.

I am having the half of the Suzi Q my wife didn't eat for my pre workout carbs in the morning. Next time I might raid her box of the Cap'n. Is that with or without the crunch berries? Do they count as a fruit?

I think it all depends. Sometimes i eat before I work out sometimes I dont.
During the week I have some almonds on my way home from work and then workout about a half hour later. I think you just need to experiment. I find if I eat too much especially carbs I can feel bloated and slow. But not that long ago I would eat high carb before workouts, like oatmeal or something else full of sugar. Everybody is different

Eat enough that you don't train on nervous energy. If you get shaky during your workout eat more before training and/or cut your volume back. When you get the shakes the grow mechanism turns off. You should know what food fits best in your belly.
