Default Stretching

I make sure to stretch my muscles very well before I work out. I stretch for about 8 to 10 minutes. Is there a thing as overstretching do you think?

I do not think you can really overstretch. I have never heard of this before. Look at yoga. That is basically all you are doing is stretching.

Doing static stretches, as found in yoga, prior to workouts will leave the joints too unstable; when lifting weights, fighting, and in many other sports, a certain degree of tightness within set areas is required for the safety of the individual.

Static stretching at the end of the day, or when the sport is finished for the day, is fine as it will not then unduly interfere with movement patterns.

Not trying to start anything, but I've read a lot lately that says that is just a myth. I'd be interested in hearing what others think about it. I know Wendler advocates good 'ol fashioned stretching, which caused me to research it a little further, although not too in-depth as I am actually really bad about stretching.

Static stretches mess with your proprioception for a duration after they have been performed.

^ this is fact. It coming down to personal opinion and what works good for you. Research shows its is a hit or miss either way. Nothing hard core fact yes or no.

I myself never did more than a very short stretch (maybe 5-15 seconds) of the muscle I'm about to work.

That was just mean to do that to somebody that's still working on their first pot of coffee. But I got through it and understood a percentage of it and thank you for posting it. But what I did get out of it is that there was a very small percentage decrease in power output in SOME circumstances, and that decrease dissapeared after 10 minutes; which puts me well into my warmup sets and fully recovered by the time I reach anything heavy. Maybe I missed something important, it was full of stuff I didn't quite grasp. But is it possible that the benefits of static stretching outweight the short term negatives?
