Basically, it's taking the year and dividing it into chunks so you can work on different aspects of your goal. If you are into sports, you may work on strength and size for part of the year, then maintain strength and work on speed for part of the year, and finally you'd work on skills leading up to the season.

if you're asking about periodization in regards to lifting, this would entail rotating between heavier weights, lower reps & higher reps, moderate weights every few weeks to keep your muscles guessing & prevent a plateau.

Periodization is also used to give your joints/muscle/connective tissues/etc Breaks. Its also useful to attack different fiber types. 12 weeks split up could be 4weeks mderate volume and weight, 4 weeks lower volume more weight, 4weeks moderate weight super high volume...for example.
Youre still kinda new to all this from what i can tell fro your posts...for now go with KISS..keep it simple stupid. |
