Heavy compound lifts, weighted situps, cable crunches, side bends.

I've noticed that side bends, weighted planks (hold between 30 sec-1 minute) and front squatting a couple times a month has helped a lot along with my main lifts.

As has been pointed out recently, the core does not equate solely to the abs, the core is the core...the back, the abs, the entire middle/core section of the body; situps only target a small portion of that core. A good well-rounded workout will target all of it without the need for "specific" exercises, per se, for the core.

Maybe the oceans will turn to beer & the oxygen into marijuana smoke. Or maybe the banking sector will get destroyed & money will therefore be useless, meaning that humans can live as creative individuals with the opportunity to express themselves freely. I truly hope so, as long as I can still play music & lift weights! |

I have done very little direct ab/core work in the past year. I am not ripped in the least, but squatting and deadlifting have given me a solid shield of muscle across my core.
