Mine is similar to how Ripeptoe teaches it, also my forearms are vertical at the bottom. For me, it ends up being just outside shoulder width, my thumbs tend to just touch my shoulders.

If I'm doing a pure overhead press, I put my pointer fingers on the ring, same as I do for normal benching. That ends up being fairly wide and yes, it hits my shoulders harder than a closer grip which brings in more tricep. If I'm doing something more akin to o-lifting like a clean and press, then my pinkies are just inside the ring, at the point where if I extended my thumbs along the bar they'd just reach the smooth. This closer grip gives me less power over head, but more wrist comfort when I rack the bar on my chest.
I've been using these grip widths since I started training. Never needed to change, although I will vary grip width on bench just to switch it up. |

I've found it more comfortable for me to use the "suicide grip" too. My grip has been thumbs just outside shoulders. Pretty much in line with what many have said so far. It has to feel good to you. A fairly narrow, thumbless grip is the ticket for me. But I'm not pressing impressive weights yet.
