I have been reading and lurking but not posting. I am curious what everyone's top 5 exercises are?

If you could only use 5 exercises for building muscle and strength what would they be and why?

Why? Because those exercises let you handle a lot of weight, involves alot of muscles and works the whole body.

I posted this before looking at the lifts of others so I wouldn't taint the soup.

If I had to choose only 5, they would be:
  1. Squat
  2. Deadlift
  3. Overhead Press
  4. Bench Press
  5. Dumbbell Row

I think most of my choices are obvious. I do believe heavy dumbbell rows to be a bit underrated, and I really like them as a mass builder.

SIDE NOTE: funny stuff from Gaspers and Swede

BTB: could you clarify which kind of row? Do you mean 1 arm bent over rows for the back, or DB rows to chest, for the shoulders?
