i have never heard of the upright row being used as a back exercise though tbh

Carl.
^Me either. Upright rows are a delt movement, traps secondary. Did them today, in fact.
Solid advice right here.

whether you do them explosively or not wont change the muscles that are worked. hang cleans hit the back more because they are a different exercise. Sam with any exercise, how fast/expolsive you do it wont change the muscles used, just the TUT and the weight that you do the lift with

hope this helps

Carl.

Upright rows with a close grip puts emphasis on the traps.
Upright rows with a shoulder width grip puts more emphasis on the delts.
Upright rows with a barbell murders your shoulders. (range of motion seems all wrong)
Upright rows with dumbbells are better for your shoulders and are a good delt exercise (picture putting a can of paint on the table for technique)
Upright rows!
Upright rows!!
