I am simplifying my workout this week.

When I started this journey I was still thinking I needed to hit every bodypart or I might die.

Right now I feel like abs, leg curls, biceps twice a week are a wasted effort for me. I also do not want/need leg extensions right now, or shrugs. I want more deadlifts. I want more basics and less fluff. The fluff is feeling like a waste of time and energy.

This is not to say they are a waste of effort for beginners and intermediates. But I generally know my limits, and what causes me to lose strength/muscle, and I am learning more what I can do without.

I want more basics, and feel I can finally mentally detach from the "I must directly crush every body part."

I recently did the same self examination. I arrived at a very similar conclusion and cut my accessories down to Wed. only. Even then, by the time I get to them, I do not have much left in the tank. The great thing about this challenge is that the routines hit the smaller muscles hard enough with all the compound work that you really don't need any extra work on them.

This was the hardest part for me too, im so glad there is a wealth of information on this site wrt fullbodies... it really puts my mind at ease. I knw now I AM STILL hitting everypart I want to grow, i dont need endless direct work on the body parts cos all that will do is destroy the muscle. I want functional strength and a classic physique and that it done with a FULL BODY routine

Carl.

I am going to do the same. I think squats and some staples on M-F and deads and some minor work on Wednesday. Sort of a minor M or L day, if you will.

Carl.
To be honest I tried many fullbodies last year but failed. GL knows this...he wrote several routines and tried to help me, but I was still wearing the "split" veil and could just not stomach a fullbody unless it had exercises for every body part.

I failed last year so many times it was pathetic.

I finally started to taste success on my Drunk Russian log, which GL missed while he was away. I ran that for a month successfully and it taught me a lot.

I have been staying focused on fullbody, and A//B splits for awhile. When I try to write split programs now I find that there is just to much junk included and wasted energy that could be better utilized by working harder on a big compound move.

I do think splits have a place in training. However, most people are not at that place, and therefore are wasting their time. While it is their time to waste, these same people then write that they are not seeing the gains that they want.

When you suggest a different style of training to them them they often turn it down as it seems boring. So they go back to yet another version of a split, and the dog continues to chase it's tail.

I don't understand how people say they get bored with a basic program when they are making gains and adding weight to the bar.

I'm by no means bored. I thought I would be though honestly but everyday it is a new challenge and progression keeps things from getting boring.

When we don't succeed we call it boring, it helps us feel better about our failure. Each day I enter the gym seeking success, that keeps me from boredom. The days I go n feeling wiped and like a failure, those are the days I claim to be bored. One thing training has taught me is to focus on what I can not what I can't and to set my goals high and push to achieve them.

The only thing that bores me is not hitting a PR on a big lift.

The only thing we can learn from is failure, but to do so, we must recognise what we are doing as a mistake. Then we must correct that mistake.
