I would agree that maybe they dont give you abs but Sit ups and Crunches from a fighter point of view as essential tools in building a strong core that can take a impact.

Agreed. I don't think Venuto is completely discounting ab training. He's just pointing out that it isn't a major factor in getting the "washboard" look.

I'm glad he said that ab definition is *almost* entirely due to low body fat. I've read that in females you have to be like 14% body fat to see your abs. I'm nowhere NEAR that and you can see mine.

I have 2 of Venuto's books and know them pretty inside and out.
I'll describe the body fat levels he says for abs and leaness: Type / Men / Women: Ripped: 3-5% / 9-12% Excellent Leanness: <10% / <15% Lean: 10-14% / 16-20% Average BF: 15-19% / 21-25% Below Average BF: 20-25% / 26-30% Obese: 26-30%+ / 31-40%+
