I'll do some wrist curls just to mess around during a cardio session, but I am definitely forearm-gifted so I don't stress about them. Just never do forearms the same day as back and before the back workout, it will be worst mistake you'll ever make.. Quote:

At various times I have trained my foreams, but I've noticed that for the most part they've grown without direct forearm work. From time time time I'll try some hammer curls, but I think between regular curls and rows, they get good stimulation.
I don't know if there are "stubborn forearm" lifters. I can't say that I've come across them like I have "stubborn calf" lifters.

Doing deadlifts and other heavy back work is building my forearms. They could stand some more direct isolation work. I'll be incorporating that into my current split on various days.
As OTK noted, about forearm work I need to work in at the right spot, so as not to overlap with my current program. |

I just started doing some direct grip / forearm work, coincided with direct bicep work so that I can feel more stable in the bench and keep my elbows health(ier).

What do you guys believe is most effective for forearm strength and mass, hammer curls, static holds, or a combo of both?

I haven't the slightest, but I would guess that static holds probably wouldnt do much for forearm mass. I like the pump from a wrist roller the best. At this point I could care less about the size of my biceps, but I used to do a lot of drop sets back in the day and I had pretty decent arm mass back then. I wouldn't do this while deadlifting heavy though because I am always afraid of bicep tears. I would work deadlifts heavier earlier in a cycle and move to more drastic direct bicep work as I approached a BB'ing show, and switch to snatch grip deads with straps to work on back width as a show approached all while reducing the stress on the biceps.
