I feel that i do get a really good range of motion on bent over dumbbell rows, but its bodybuilding blasphemy not to perform bent over barbell rows.... so i rotate every two weeks.

just throwing a couple more cents on the pile...

You want to build a big thick back, you need to deadlift. I prefer one arm dumbbell rows to barbell rows. DB rows are much safer in terms of any shoulder issues you may have, and I find them harder to do. I am usually gassed after one armed DB rows.

Deadlifts have built my back and traps more in the past 2 years then all the rowing did in the 20 years previously. With that said, I used to love DB rows, but gave them up because of the time issue.

I've been thinking a lot lately about getting DB rows back in the game. Barbell rows have never felt "good" to me.
