Cutting and Splits
It's been so long since I did a split it seems like learning Chinese.
Since I have a long cut ahead of me, do you guys think it's beneficial to work with a split or an upper lower? |
Not sure that's as important as the overall volume. Get those sets and reps in.

Old School/ Full-body :)

I like 4 days a week:
Day 1:legs Day 2:chest and shoulders Day 3:back Day 4:arms Versatile for powerlifting or bodybuilding. Bodybuilding like it is and if you want a more powerlifting split, legs become squat and back becomes dead day. Chest and shoulders become pause bench day and arms become lockout based day. |
If you can build up to those crazy full body sessions I used to do, you'll burn a tonne of calories like that.

I should have explained my reason for bringing this up.
Right now it takes me 40-45 minutes to warmup before my first working squat set. If I squat 1x a week I reduce my warmup time each week by 45 minutes, which could be used for other work. Pretty much the same deal with deadlifts and bench. That is the conundrum. So if I stick with fullbody I am considering something Grimekian on day 1: 315 x 10 415 x AMAP 465-505 x AMAP This way my warmups serve as "work." Day 2 might be a 20 repper on squats. |

If you're doing stuff like 3 sets of 10 with sets every minute, that's going to limit your top weight and subsequently your warm up time. Also the next exercises will require less warm up too.
I can see your logic, but you end up doing less work. What I was saying was something like: Squats 3 sets 10 Bench 3 sets 10 SLDL 3 sets 10 Press 3 sets 10 Rows 3 sets 10 Curls 3 sets 10 Eventually work up to Squats 3 sets 10 Leg Extensions 3x10 Bench 3 sets 10 Chest Flies 3x10 SLDL 3 sets 10 Ham Curls 3x10 Press 3 sets 10 Laterals 3x10 Rows 3 sets 10 Shrugs 3x10 Curls 3 sets 10 Extensions 3x10 Go Reg Park on this bitch. Wouldn't need much warm up after squats. |

Not to bang this drum for the third consecutive time - but I think it's a really healthy way to train, and I intend to spend a few months this year after competitions doing something like that to restore some balance, stave off any potential injuries and get in shape.
