I have very sweaty hands so gloves are a must for me. Chalk is not a option seen as my sons room doubles as my gym. I don't care if they pull my man card, its better than pulling a bar or Db off my face. ;)
Any power lifter will tell you go no gloves because they can't use them at there meets, they can only use chalk so train without them.
If its a safety issue or personal choice theres nothing wrong with it. If your training as a power lifter then yes man up and buy chalk.
Gloves are like a person posted, a ladies purse. No one likes the same thing. I have 1 Schiek pair for Bb pressing and another that works and feels better for Db pressing/work. I have spent all kinds of money just to find out Mongoose bicycle gloves work the best for Db work for me. So take your time look around and just like finding a nutrition plan or w/o plan that works for you, it will be the same way with any personal equipment like gloves or belt you need to find what works for you.
Just because some big shot uses something if its very uncomfortable or crappy for you are you going to feel safe using it?
