High reps on calf training
6 months of progression on my calves and not a single half inch increase. My other measurements are going up. Added .75" on arms! I do both seated and stand calf raises for 3-4 sets of 15-20 twice a week and increase the weight when I can, but it's not working. Any suggestions?

I read in one of Arnolds books, that he liked to train his calves heavy becasue the calves are a muscle that we use daily and going heavy helped his calves respond. Now I know we're not Arnold, but he may have a point?

my calf's gained more size when my squat and deadlift numbers went up.Especially the squats.
|
Seated I generally go for reps, Standing I overload and go to failure with each set.

My calves seem to be getting thicker as I am starting to focus on squats and deads I have terribly weak calves ..... and I have never been able to get them to respond to a high rep scheme.
I read somewhere that Arnold cut the lower legs out of all of his w/o pants to physiologically motivate himself to train calves harder. |
I have noticed a difference with doing Steve's BURNS! Do 2 sets 10-15 reps and then do 1 set of 40 reps! It BURNS! Just my 2 cents!:)

A 2-3 second hold on the bottom and top should help get those puppies to grow.:mh: I also like to do my "standing" calf raises on a 45 degree leg press machine cuz I can load more weight.

I do no direct calf work, but Squats and Deads have mine to the point that when I wear shorts, people ask me about them.

I agree with babs on the daily training. I got some growth on this:
