Do use warmup sets in addition to warming up when training your main lift for the day.

Don't listen to everything you hear even if they think they look like they know what they're talking about, do some research to back-up what you hear or at least to deepen your knowledge...but, also be careful of the sources you choose to do that with, cross-reference things, in the end it's for your own safety.
