When I started training I was never intimated in the commercial gyms because even the men that were bigger than me I still could outlift them.

However, when I started training a a good gym, my first couple weeks I was intimated by the pro PL'ers/Strongmen, but then they took me under the wing and it pushed me more than intimated.

Both of these are very good points. I think that if you are intimidated you will want to work hard to succeed so it may be a good thing.

Never, If I had time to look around, I was ready for my next set. I have felt from the begging if I have time to look around and care about others (other than my training partner) I'm not focused on my own work and its time in the gym wasted.

It paid off. NOW I'm the guy that the big boys, 2 times my size, just starting out with a year or 2 under there belt ask "You want me to take some weight off" as they leave a area and I reply "Na , I'll use it for a warm up."
Then I bust it out and see them in the corner watching me with there mouth catching flies.

I roll in the local commercial gym ( when I go ) and I'm the one that intimidates. lol

I love my home gym. I don't have to wait for anyone.

I wasn't so much intimidated but more so self conscious when I joined the gym first.

When I train at a new gym this still effects me. Feels like day 1 all over again!

Its not that guys are in better shape or lifting heavier than me but cant quite put my finger on why

Your thrown out of your comfort zone and routine. You have to search for things all over again.

It's because you're used to the environment and possibly know some of the people, so you don't feel like a newcomer, whereas at a new gym, you are the newcomer so all those initial newcomer emotions are still attached to working out there.
