Default Am I too old?

Be honest with me on this one. I am going to be 50 this year and want a change. I thought lifting would be a good chance for me to do something good for myself. Am I too old do you think to start now?

Nope. Lifted with Ryano from this forum last weekend, he's around 56 if I remember. Watched him bench over 700 pounds. You've got plenty of mileage left, just take it slow and you can make some great progress.

I am turning 49 years old next month, so I'm right there with you. Although I may have a head start on you, I am always trying to achieve new goals for myself. Nothing to it but to get started. Just don't forget, you aint in your 20s any more, so don't expect to be able to train the same as the kids. But it DEFINITELY worth your time and effort!

I'm 50, and even after some layoffs over the last year, I can still come back and build. So, in answer to the question. NO, you're not to old.

Now, what do you want to do?

If you are just starting out, make sure you lift with someone that can show you good form. This will prevent injury. Also, don't try to load the bar with to much to fast. Take your time and enjoy the "good" pain of DOMS. I'll be 57 in a couple of months and have no thoughts of quitting. I didn't compete until I was 48.
