Me; I got to 36y/o and decided I wanted to get fitter and drop a few pounds, which initially started with altering my food intake a little (not excluding anything) and doing yoga, which then went on to be stepping, and eventually led to the addition of weights as well.
I had been active when I was younger, doing lots of different sporty style stuff, but aside from some cycling had let that slip, it was great to get back into something.

My own potential. I hated who I was when I was fat and untrained, and I had an idea in my head of who I COULD be if I put the work in. I'll never actually get to where I want to be, but that's the fun. I get to see just how close I can get while I'm still around.

Myself. I have a stupid competitive streak that I can't control a lot of the time. I have to win. It would never interfere with my team mates success, but it applies to just about everything in my life.
