wow, this thread is totally awesome. i highly suggest reading through all the previous entries. you will feel upbeat and positive. so many good people on this forum.
what first motivated me to lift was when i helped a guy at work and he shook my hand in appreciation. he crushed my hand with his grip. he wasn't purposely trying to do this, just giving a normal, firm handshake. the guy was shorter than me and skinny (even his forearms), yet he was so much stronger than me. i never saw the guy again, but somehow i became fixated on this over the next few days. it was a period when i became aware of how truly weak and pathetic i was, and i wanted to be the kind of man i could respect. |

Before i go to workout i randomly check some nice video on youtube for 10 to 15 min and then i start my workout.
Those videos provide me great intensity while working out. |

I lost quite a few training years of my life studying. I also wasted time smoking and have harmed my body. There is no way I want to go back to that life, it keeps me going in the gym. I am married now and now a teetotaler, my senses are back, that helps too.
Some videos too are helpful just before going to the gym.

For me its the example I try set for my children. I want them to see Daddy is a workhorse, he wants something bad enough and he will work himself hard to get it. It will not be handed to him and served on a silver platter.
I want them to have the same drive and level of discipline, I hope that that mindset will carry over for them in all aspects. And that they will know that anything worth achieving is worth working for. Its the same discipline I try to apply to my work, its just they cannot see it at work so the best example is the gym I guess. I have a much older stepson, doesnt get it, would rather piss about on facebook. Trouble is he is a pretty gifted athlete but understands nothing about a hard days work. I have tried telling him the days of getting improvements in athletics due to getting older will come to an end, chooses to ignore. Oh well as long as my youngens can see what I mean I am happy. |

If you need someone else to motivate you to train, you're in the wrong sport.

My desire to be one of the strongest and healthiest 50 year old's around. Looking good will be a side effect. I got 1 year to go, as I just turned 49.
On my 40th birthday, I had a major Epiphany and began my 10 year journey. I quit smoking, drinking, and went gluten free all on the same day cold turkey and have not looked back. I have already reached the health goal, as I was told by an internal medicine specialist last summer that I am the healthiest person they have ever tested on a cellular level. He said he wished he had my health, which is priceless because it was the equivalent of a healthy 25 year old. Living to a 100+ is a real possibility for me he said. (My eye issues are unrelated) The journey won't end at 50 of course, but it will be a major milestone that I am so looking forward to.
