They don't use it so much in the UK, we're still at the "sugar" stage, I think. For example, our cola has added sugar and no corn syrup as of yet.

The US has had a trend in the soda industry, re-releasing throwback drinks with sugar. I'm not sure if this trend died though.

My wife considers corn uber healthy. It's her go to "healthy vegetable" (yes we know it's a grain, but she will not connect with it being a grain), and her "healthy snack" when dieting (popcorn).
