One pound is about $13 on Amazon, but that doesn't include shipping.

I bet a local health food store might have it a hair cheaper.

The poison is not debilitating, unless taken in huge quantities, and is similar to the poisons in poison oak, sumac and ivy. What you eat in most places have been steamed and possibly roasted. If you are allergic to poison oak, ivy, sumac, etc... you may also find yourself allergic to cashews. The rate of allergy to cashews is lower than peanuts and other nuts, but it still happens. Here are a couple links to read some more.

I've read this entire thread and vote it be stickied. Also, it raises a question. What are some good slow digesting carbs that can take the place of say oatmeal and brown rice? I know this is the healthy fats thread but I don't know where else to ask.

Added a new Paleo and low carb forum, and am moving this post to that thread and sticking it.

It's really 6 of one, a 1/2 dozen of the other Andy.

Most breakfast-style grains have a higher glycemic index than pure sugar.

For those who don't know what the glycemic index means...the higher the number, the greater the insulin fluctuation is after consuming these carbs.

Here are some grain foods. The "better" choices are in red.

Glycemic Index List for Breads Grains, Cereal Pasta With Glycemic Index Values

Glycemix Index:

Pure sugar: 65
Rice cake: 78
Wheat thins: 67
All-bran cereal: 42
Grape nuts: 71
Cream of Wheat: 66
Oatmeal: 58
Barley: 22-48
Brown rice: 66-87
Bulgar wheat: 48

If you want better choices, they are fruits:

Apple: 38
Grapefruit 25
Orange: 42
Pears: 33-42
Strawberries: 40

As far as rice style grains, quinoa is your best option.

Quinoa: 53

I guess it suits me lol.

Peanuts I will remove from my diet, sure, but not my SPI.
