There's probably not a huge amount you can do for sore muscles except wait. Years ago, it was thought that lactic acid caused soreness, and that heat would open the blood vessels to flush it out. However, as it's more likely that soreness is due to muscle fibre microtrauma, heat or ice probably won't do a great deal.

More training.

Seriously, if it's simple DOMS that'll clear it up.

I think that heat....like a hot tub, eases the pain some temporarily. Ice is needed to help with inflamation of the joints....but if it's JUST muscle soreness, I'm with Facz, movement gets the blood in there and works out the soreness.

For leg DOMS I used to take a long walk then a hot bath. Helped some. For real intense upper body DOMS nothing really helped much. I preferred sleeping and counting the days.

^ This is basically all you can do.

Stretching post workout the muscles you stimulate supposedly helps according to some old strength coaches, but I believe that was back when everyone was mistaken lactic acid immediate soreness for DOMS.

Sore muscles? Eat some protein, and get a solid sleep. Sometimes I find a few lighter reps with sore muscles can alleviate a bit of the pain but for the most part you just have to allow for recovery.

I get sore muscles a lot. I just rest a lot and also take use of icy hot. It reliefs the pain for a while. Then I try to get back into it.
