For muscle soreness I use ice, heat, Tiger Balm ointment, and foam/mobility rolling. They all seem to help a little.

Ice for the first 24-48hours then move on to contrast methods (alternating hot and cold). Putting heat on it too soon will increase inflammation. As for the squat again method. That is something called the "repeated bout effect" and works very well once the body adjusts to higher frequency training.

If your sole purpose is to get blood flow to an area it would be a good idea to use concentric exercises. Sled dragging would fit the bill here very nicely. If you do another eccentric movement you are going to add to the damage you have already accumulated.
