Default Waking up in the middle of night to eat..

How beneficial is waking up in the middle of the night to eat? Does it effect your sleep recovery? Opinoins?

Never done it. Is this your last window for more calories?

I'd suggest making a shake and putting it on the bathroom counter so you can't miss it when you go in the middle of the night.

Back in the 80s this was pretty popular. I remember guys keeping a shaker in the fridge and slamming some when they would get up. Must admit, I considered doing this from time to time when I was young.

Not a bad idea as a way to help you achieve your daily calorie intake.

I would say sleep is more important than extra food. Eat some eggs and bacon or something similar before bed, the high protein/fat content will keep your stomach from dumping it all into the small intestine as quickly and keep nutrients flowing throughout a large portion of the night.

On the other hand, if you wake up in the middle of the night, can't get back to sleep, and have the desire, fix some food and eat it.

Exactly what's been said. Sleep is more important, but if you're up anyways there's nothing wrong with getting some protein. Avoid carbs because insulin blunts natural HGH release.

I'm lucky, I don't usually wake up during the night. My wife gets up to pee three or four times, I just roll over and keep sleeping. I'm certainly not going to wake up just to eat something.

i think uninterrupted sleep is more valuable. i read recently that test levels supposedly reach their peak after you reach REM or something like that; it's worth researching. also, you can get your calories during the day with an equal/lesser inconvenience.
