Default Exercise and Extreme Fitness

Curious what kind of exercise and extreme abuse you have put your body through in the name of fitness.

In my teens and early 20s I would often spend half my day doing some form of cardio...almost literally. When I worked at GNC I would bike 25 miles to and from work. When I built the majority of my muscle I would usually play basketball for 2 hours a day.

One of my favorite forms of torture would be to run over to the local parking ramp and do stairs for an hour. I was also obsessed with doing steps, and would do them for about an hour a day at home.

I also did a ton of jumping rope, aerobics (yes, not kidding...it was the 80s), shadow boxing, wrestling, tennis, pushups, roller blading, situps, running, running, running and more running.

I was a cross country runner in high school, on the wrestling team and played basketball in college.

To say I was obsessed about being in peak shape is an understatement.

I think, I'd have to say none, oddly; there was one exercise session, however, that did not sit well with my body...so, I guess it fits here:

I used to do Dynamic Yoga which consisted of a 243 posture movement taking around 1hr 30mins twice a day, so 3 hrs total daily...much as it was relaxing, pretty much sorted my headaches as well, it sent my peristalsis into overdrive causing over 12 bowel movements prior to luchtime, each and every day.

I was in that much pain that I found it difficult to walk and the docs were going to start looking for pathogens etc...thankfully, I found the connection by accident and by listening to the reactions of the body after taking a slight break from the yoga, due to the amount of pain not permitting me to do the sessions any longer.

Now, I try and listen and watch for reactions a lot more, and realise that not every form of exercise suits everyone; I also restrict abs sessions for the above reason but am more in tune now which is great.

If it wasn't for fly fishing/hiking/camping/wheeling, I'd be sitting on my butt 24/7 except for lifting weights. I hate aerobic exercise!!!

Nothing particularly long-term, but I did do the 300 once.
  • 25xPull-Up
  • 50xDeadlift with 135lbs (approx. 60kg)
  • 50xPush-Up
  • 50xBox Jump with 24″ box
  • 50xFloor Wiper with 135lbs
  • 50xKettlebell Clean and Press with 36lbs (approx. 16kg)
  • 25xPull-Up

Couldn't do the chin-ups properly, so I did them with a foot resting on a bar and used a DB for the kettlebell stuff, but yeah... Was alright for about 5-10 minutes and then threw up. Never again. Found my old training log and it says I did this in 28 minutes, so considering the target for the 300 guys was 20 and I hadn't done any conditioning work prior to it in a long while, I think I did alright!

Only time I've ever thrown up from training.

Not really, people think that is what the actors did to hench up for 300, when in fact they did a standard weights and conditioning routine. That was merely done for a little test every so often so I and my friend thought we'd do it for funsies.
