Default What did I do to my hand?!

I finished my leg day today with some standing calf presses. I was hodling the bar on my back, but with a much higher hold than I usually use. I also took my hands off the bar and looped my arms over the bar so I could use my hands to support myself against the power rack. While I was doing my heavy set with 315 all of a sudden I realized that my right hand was going numb, like there wasn't any blood getting to it. Once I racked the weight my right arm felt "dead". I never lost all feeling, but I had trouble "controlling" my right arm. I mean that I went to brush sweat off my face and my right hand just sort of hit me in the face, like I coudn't control it completely.

Now I'm home and my right thumb is still tingling along with the top of my right forearm all the way up to the elbow.

Any ideas about what I might have done here? Is there a nerve or vain running along the top of the shoulder that I pinched with the awkward bar positioning?

I have the feeling that I'll be fine tomorrow, but I want to know what I did!

Naw, it's already slightly better. I'm more just curious about what I did.

My right thumb feels like it does when you go out into the cold and your fingers swell up and start tingling.

I am not a doctor, but what you are describing sounds like an irritated nerve or pinched nerve.

Especially if the thumb is *STILL TINGLING*.

I'd 2nd FAZC recommendation and go to a doctor if it is still tingling tomorrow.

Oh, if it were to be still tingling tomorrow that would be another thing entirely.

TBH, it's going away now. I do think it was a nerve, because of how the feeling extends up my arm. I'll be more careful next time I do that movement to not let the bar get too high. I think that was the issue.

Thanks for the concern guys, really. I promise I'll go to the doctor if it doesn't go away.

Happens to me when I give the three year old a piggy back ride. The tingling doesn't last nearly that long though. A nerve impingement of some sort. I'll go with Wlfdg.
