I think they would be good for extra leg work without adding to lower back fatigue. I also think they would be great for guys with bad backs. I just couldn't ever justify the cost of the equipment or the hassle of setting it up.

Beat me to posting it up!
Handy for those wanting to do lower leg work without so much strain on the back and no use of the upper body (so, the guy says ).

If I could find a cheap way of doing it I would try. I don't have a dipping belt but if I could find a cheap one I think I could rig things up with a chain and plates. I have some aerobic steps.

I have the Hip-Belt from Ironmind, it's a really thorough leg exercise. I have the loading pin which allows upto around 200kg to be used depending on the size of the plates.
The big problem for me has been the set-up. It's just so much hassle to set up relative to any other barbell or dumbbell exercise. I use a couple of cinder blocks to stand on, and take the weight off a bench, I then hold the rack supports for balance. I know McCallum was big into these, if I had a place to leave it set-up I probably would use it more often. |

I've tried the dip belt before when I was having some back issues. It worked "okay" but it was very painful when the chains dug into you, even with towels placed under the chains. For a guy with your strength, I think it would be very difficult without spending the money on the hip belt.

Right now the donkey squat still stands as my best at home quad-focused exercise. I like the goblet squat but it works my core more than my legs.
Only problem with donkey squats is that they can be a pain to set up.
