Shut The F*ck Up And Train

A quote I found:

Quote:
whatever happened to shut up and lift? instead it seems like every ****er on here is busy complaining about how they can't lift. I don't care if your genetic limit naturally is 200lbs. or 300lbs, just get in there and put in some ****ing effort.

instead we have skinny shits talking about how 160 is a great weight and how they would rather be sucking **** than actually putting in some REAL effort in the gym. working up a sweat, getting a little dizzy, questioning WHY THE **** they are doing these torturous exercises and then continuing on for another 3 sets.

instead these people need 100 different ways to do a simple exercise, a nutrition plan accurate to the nearest 1 calorie (not Kcal, calorie), and yet they will then half ass it, blame others progress on drugs/better program/better genetics and never look themselves in the mirror and blame themselves.

Sure there might be a better program, they might have worse genetics (but in reality are probably within the same fraction of that bell curve), and sure AAS is goint to help those that are already training hard. But really it just comes down to guys making no progress and only having themselves to blame.

I enjoyed that, too many times I've seen this and I've only been in the game for 3 years.

Very good quote. People too often are scared of success and instead embrace failure.

This is the quote that struck a chord with me:

Quote:

Day in and day out I see questions from guys that either want to question everything or want to tweak everything. They fear that precision, as they see it, must be infused into every system or it will fail.

This "precision" might be 16 sets for biceps.
This "precision" might be a burnout set at the end of every exercise.
This "precision" might be the adding of 3 ab days, and direct work for traps and forearms.
This "precision" might be a chest workout that includes a flat bench, incline and decline movement.

I am not hammering on anyone's beliefs here. Do what you want. I don't care. But if you are not making progress or experiencing results, then stop trying to change everything based off some study or article.

Keep it simple and learn the fundamentals. Without the fundamentals nothing works.

/The end.

Sometimes I think/feel that exercises have variations for a reason and occasionally that reason may be to benefit a person that has problems performing the initially designated manner of doing said exercise...which is one good reason for looking at variations but as already mentioned people change things because they think it will work better than what they're already doing even though they haven't given it time for them to establish whether or not that is the case.

Just thought I'd throw that in there. But really it is simple, to a degree, pick up weight and put it down again, rinse, repeat cycle

I agree.

My issue is that if a lifter does not know the fundamentals in the sense that they are not making progress from them, then needs are often perceived (from an article, buddy at the gym, Mr. Olympia, a study) rather than experiential.

You know, the other day I had just finished my workout and saw another regular there who had just finished his. I asked him how his workout went, and he said just something like "um, ok". I asked him "hit any PR's? Personal records?" He said, "No", and then I responded "Well, every day you come here you should be trying to hit a PR of some sort. Whether that's weight or reps. You pick". He suddenly had this enlightened look in his eyes like I said something truly profound.
