It's not really a gym rule but... at my local community gym, I suggested they put up a lifts record board. The trainers were in favour, but it had to be approved by management. Management said "it would encourage people to push themselves on lifts, which would risk injury."

I'm not sure what we're doing in the gym if we're not pushing ourselves...

Those gym rules are the reason I own my own gym. I'll do what I want, when I want. If you don't like it, call the law.

They don't want anyone to get in good shape and potentially stop coming!

Yes, like the army of bounce-benchers and quarter squatters are training safely.

Not to be sarcastic, but last time I checked gyms make money each January off of people that have no clue what they're doing. To me that would be a bigger danger.

Seeing all those "no chalk" listed makes me grateful that the big gym I go to hasn't complained yet when I bring in and use my own chalk. No complaints deadlifting or cleaning either.

Given California's horrible economy, I don't think it's in their best interests to kick me out anyway.

Only rule at my gym is put away your stuff when you are done and lock up when you leave.

The Comercial gym I used to go to on the other hand is a totally different story, hense the reason I no longer go there. I wont support a place that tells me how to lift.
