How accurate are the ones that are electronic and you hold out in front of you? It asks for your height, age, and weight and then hold it out in front of you.

I was in health care for 5 years and had to use the handhelds on patients 100's of times. The heavier you got, the more it underestimated fat percentage. For example...I tested a woman who weight 300 pounds. Her percentage came back as 35% bodyfat. This would have meant that she had as much muscle mass as some IFBB pros. The readings always seemed to be under by at least 5%, if not more. While they do check impedance, they run a calculation based on your other stats so you are actually getting a calculation based on average stats. If you have any muscle mass at all though, it will start to swing in the opposite direction calling you fat. Anyway, a caliper, though not perfect, can accurately gauge the skinfold thickness which in general provides a more reasonable calculation.

I have been using DEXA since about 2007, and love the "content" of the results it gives you (for example Bone Density), besides your body fat percentage (especially at my age, he, he
), and its (one of) the most accurate methods. If I give a BF percent, this is what it is based from. The other day, I had a scan competed, and I am currently at 7.4 percent. And, I love it!

Vasculinity is so often mistaken for being leaner than you truly are also.
A 3 point pinch/skin fold test is just as in accurate as the electronic hand held or stand ons. Time of day and what you have eaten and drank up to test can also throw it way off. Best free and most accurate, general test, is the 7 point skin fold, right after you wake up, before you eat or drink anything. Its still off a little, but if you track your changes and keep doing it the same and the way I mentioned, a change will be a change no matter what. If you check the mail the same time every day only the amount of mail you get will change correct? Think of your nutrition as the mail man and the amount of mail you get your body fat. I have a 7 piont on my site I have found to work very well. http://freakonwheels.com/calculators/

the dude from 3-4% body fat looks dry with flakes! i like the 10-12% body fat body. personally i am around 20-25% body fat aiming for around 10% body fat. and "50% of the body fat lies under skin" didn't know that
