There is a Traditional Rivalry between Wrestlers and Basketball Players... But tradition aside, I'd about as soon watch paint dry as watch a Basketball Game. Football is almost as bad. So what do I like? Baseball is okay in Homeopathic doses. Boxing! Women's Pro Softball!! and Sumo!!! If you've ever Wrestled—Tape a Sumo Match (a real—i.e. Japanese Sumo Match) and watch it in slow motion. Each Player will make seven or eight abortive starts at moves that are countered by his opponent before they've even properly begun—all as one Sumo shoves the other out of the circle... Be all that as it may. I was somewhere and bored and I picked up a "Reader's Digest" and there was an article by Larry Bird. (Byrd?) He hails from The Sovereign Nation of Indiana—just like me—so I guess he cain't be all Bad... Anyway, Bird said that his first year in the Pros, he was so Psyched Up just being there, that he was Thoroughly Psyched for every game. Basketball players play many more games in a season than Football players. Sometimes they play multiple games in one week. Bird said that he found out during his second season that he couldn't possibly be Psyched Up for every single game. He said that he realized that if he wanted to stay a Pro, that he needed to learn how to turn in a good workmanlike performance, even when he wasn't particularly Psyched and Fired-Up. You know, for us guys who aren't in High School anymore... And who aren't currently preparing for a Major Competition of some sort... If we want to stay fit—and even improve... We need to learn to put in a Good Workmanlike Performance, even when we're not particularly "Fired-Up". In fact, while training extra hard—on nervous energy—can be acceptable, even helpful—over short periods of time, while "Peaking"... Adrenaline destroys Testosterone. There are solid physiological reasons for the Stereotype of the Huge Phlegmatic Strongman who wouldn't get too stressed if you set his sweat pants on fire. Saxon Violence |
