Do you feel that children should be vaccinated? I just saw a post on fb that said the mother got her son vaccinated and it caused a big outroar by a friend that said they should not be vaccinated bc of cancer and such. What do you think about all of this?

That was on its way to extinction in Africa and then some nut started spreading rumors that polio was the government testing other diseases on people. I got all my vaccines as a kid (mmr, diptheria, polio, tetanus, etc.) and any child or children I may have I the future will have them all as well. Strangely enough I trust medicine over media scare tactics.

I don't really understand the "don't vaccinate" movement.

It's pretty simple imo. Just look at the disease and infant mortality/birth-defect rates prior to vaccines and then look at them after vaccines.

--Before vaccines, polio paralyzed tens of thousands of people every year, and after vaccines, polio has been practically eradicated.

--In the 1960's, rubella caused 15,000 kids to be deaf, blind, or mentally impaired, but after vaccines, there have only been a few dozen cases of rubella over the last 10 years.

--In the late 1950's and early 1960's, 3 million cases of measles and 500 deaths from measles were reported every year, but after vaccines, there are around 50 cases per year and almost no deaths.

--1940s, there was an average of 175,000 cases of pertussis (whooping cough) per year, resulting in the deaths of 8,000 children annually. Now, there are about 10,000 cases per year. B/c of this tin-foil hat-wearing "no vaccines" movement, whooping cough is making a comeback and there are small outbreaks among school children every year in the US and Canada (the majority of those kids are unvaccinated).

This list could go on forever. Even if vaccines raised someone's risk of something else, their benefits FAR outweigh their dangers.

Autism has exploded in the past couple of decades, along with the # of vaccines given to children at a very early age. Just a coincidence, I suppose.

So has childhood obesity and childhood diabetes. Just a coincidence, I suppose. Damn vaccines have to be causing those too b/c the increase in those conditions certainly couldn't be caused by any one of the innumerable other variables in peoples' lives, right?

I realize no one has asked me, but I've always wondered if there is a connection between autism and the massive movement to be rid of fat everywhere in our diets. The brain needs fat to develop properly. Haven't seen studies on this, but there's as much correlation here as there is for the vaccine theory.
