Any ideas on what is causing this and is there anything I can do for it besides daily stretching & lacrosse-balling? Is it possible I'm stretching too much?

My guess is you're carrying the weight too far forward on your toes.
Shifting your center of gravity back, where you drive your heels through the floor (to engage the butt and hamstring muscles more) will help you a lot. Same thing on leg press. Drive the weight through your heels more than through your toes. It takes the hip flexors out of the movement quite a bit. |
