A gym just for fatties? Well, why not? Good luck to them. I'm just surprised, in this inclusive non-discriminatory age, that they can get away with it.

Big people and skinny people alike can strip down to swimming costumes/trunks and have no issues about getting in to the same pool, yet put a little more clothing on and call it a gym and they have body issues?

Well, not all big people do get into the pool. Some stay away.

Just as not all skinny and normal sized people go to a pool either...but I think you know what I mean, there's no segregation at swimming pools for different sized people.

And, it's not to say that overweight people will go to a gym just because it caters specifically to them.

Does that mean they only hire fat trainers? Can't have fit people demoralizing the gym.

I'm so sick and tired of this discrimination/anti-discrimination BS. EVERYONE discriminates every day, it's called making a choice.

Sometimes its how expansive your thought process is and not limited to one track thinking.

This morning on the news, they expanded on their limitations of members: To combat obesity or ones severely overweight, you have to address them directly and mingle among them. While this may hit our bottom line, our focus is to provide services to those most in need, and the ones in which WANT to lose weight, and are at a higher health risk level. Our intent is not discriminate against those fit, but rather getting the obese or severely overweight into this same type of position of those that are fit. Our focus of attention is more linear as compared to what is traditionally the norm in the industry. In case you missed one of the points: As you can see we are pushing persons to get fit, and it does not make sense that we are against--the ones already fit. We are no different than others who specialize in a certain business or medical area.

They did not specify what happens when a formerly obese person, becomes fit. Which would be a valid question.

The above is the main theme of their statement. If this is true, then personally, I do not have any problem with their----intent, and they reserve the right to choose which market to capture and focus their attention on, and this (currently) does not break any discrimination laws.

It's like this: Getting people who are severely overweight/obese to the gym is a million times better than them staying at home and continuing their descent into ill health.
It's an unusual step taken by this gym but in fairness, I do see where they are coming from. People who are carrying 100+ extra pounds will often be intimidated by a 'regular' gym atmosphere. This way, they get to meet new people in the same situation. Hopefully, better exercise and nutrition habits can be learned.
Anything that helps people get fitter and healthier while also socialising is worthwhile.
