I am thinking of a cheap solid cross trainer. My other choice was probable something like a trail running shoe. Something with heavier support and a ton of traction. What do you guys think? I have also been checking out the cross fit shoes, which look great but are pretty expensive. Looking for some opinions for heavy events like farmers, tires, and sled pulls and stuff. My running shoes are worn out.

I heard of some people using combat boots at one point, but I'm not sure if it was for strongman or powerlifting.
Regardless, if I needed more traction that would be my first choice. If only for the level of awesome.

Squats, and Olympic lifts/presses. Tank would probably know more about it, as I gather he would have had to lift in army regulation gear?
This was before actual Olympic shoes came around. I'm big on history.

branch warren only trains in boots.
Boots are solid, better than sneakers. the sole is harder. sneakers with a heal for running or cross training are soft, makes an unstable base for squats and deads. for those who have never squatted in boots or chucks, next time youre at the gym do a set in your socks, but you feel stronger. youll wanna go get boots or flat soled shoes after that.

The only thing is I am not looking for something for squats or deads. I have chucks and olympic shoes. Something more that I can wear for moving events, like tire, farmers, yoke. And sled.
This is why I was leaning towards the trail runners. Clint Darden just posted a video on this for elitefts. I will post a link later. Basically he said if you are doing moving events in chucks, it will tear up your body. He uses a heavy cross trainer type shoe.
