Default Why Did You Start Lifting?

Why did everyone on here start lifting? I started when I was younger. I was sort of a thug then. Not knowing what I wanted, but very impressionable. Got into some trouble, and told to shape up. I found that lifting gave me something to do with my free time and it kept me out of the trouble. It was actually a god send as I have made a complete transformation in both my attitude and my body.

I had a severe back injury and my Physical Therapist started me lifting as part of my retraining process. I took it from there.

I started after losing over 140 pounds. I was still somewhat fat, but pretty weak, and didn't like it. Lifting not only helped me fill back out with muscle and look better, but lets me eat more without gaining fat.

When I first started out I wanted to be able to compete in bodybuilding someday. Started powerlifting and been at it ever since. I would still love to maybe do a bodybuilding contest someday, but I don't know if I would be able to diet that severly.

I was never "genetically gifted" growing up. I was tall and skinny growing up and got in middle school and started getting bullied. After high school, I decided I was going to change all of that and become big and strong and stand for the weak.

I started training and ended up having a decent mix between strength, size, and agility. I ended up taking up boxing and submission wrestling as well. I ended up hearing so many different theories from weightlifting buddies that I decided to do my own research and it turns out all of it was mens health magazine bullcrap. I now do a lot of training for people that actually listen and love my gains.

I basically train for the "what if" scenarios. I watch a lot of horror movies. I guess that's why I've became a gun collector, won't own a vehicle unless its' a 4x4 truck, sleep with flash lights and guns in easy to reach places nearby, etc. as well as taken up all forms of martial arts and weight training.

Haha...That is so "me too" except the martial arts stuff. But definitely the flashlight, guns, and clothes in easy reach.

I had very sports active kids and was diagnosed with M.S.
I wanted to keep up and help the kids with there sports and didn't want to just lay down and let the M.S. beat me.

I hated the medication shots. When I found out a low fat, high protein average carb diet with exercise help keep the M.S. attacks down I started to lift.

Co-workers talked me into competing. (back when I wasn't wheelchair yet) After I broke my 3rd non-commercial grade multi station home gym.

No med shots since mid 1990's.
Doc said "I don't know what your doing, but keep doing it."
So I have been.
