Ads from Unhate...creating quite a buzz.

I can only see 2 of the 4, but I can understand why they're creating a buzz...do they really need the kissing? Unless it's in relation to anti-gay feeling in which case it makes sense.

Supposedly they pulled the image including the pope. I personally love ads such as these that push people's buttons. Only in America do we consistently get bent out of shape over this kind of thing.

I am still trying to connect the dots between Benetton the clothing company and the Unhate campaign. I need to do some reading.

Here is what I was able to find:

The newly unveiled UNHATE Foundation seeks to promote a culture of tolerance and combat hatred around the world, the company said in a news release.


The campaign was launched today in Paris.

“Unhate is a message that invites us to consider that hate and love are not as far away from each other as we think,” the campaign’s website said. “Actually, the two opposing sentiments are often in a delicate and unstable balance. Our campaign promotes a shift in the balance: don’t hate, Unhate.”

I don't get it. And I don't like it, because I don't like pushing people's buttons for the sake of pushing people's buttons. If that's the only way you can get attention for whatever you're trying to push, it's probably not a worthwhile enough cause in the first place.

To them its not pushing buttons its pushing thought. The message is to imply that cultural leaders and religious leaders that may have opposing views(hate) can show they are capable of love(unhate). The message seems to have a point to it.

So they're saying that it's ok for people with opposing political and religious views to make out?

It's sensationalism, pure and simple.
