Obama Couldn't Wait: His New Christmas Tree Tax

President Obama’s Agriculture Department today announced that it will impose a new 15-cent charge on all fresh Christmas trees—the Christmas Tree Tax—to support a new Federal program to improve the image and marketing of Christmas trees.

I guess the Christmas tree industry needs marketing help from Uncle Sam.

And seriously 15 cent tax on something you buy once a year? Well worth the price if more American Chrsitmas Trees are sold then the artificial Chinese ones.

Exactly. I don't understand all the whining. I guess you could complain that nickle and diming the US citizens adds up, and ultimately hurts the pocket, but then again - there are far bigger things that we could be complaining about than 15 cents on a 1 time (annually) expense.

I don't want the government to try and solve all problems. They are inefficient and inept. That is all.

Like you say, I think its more the accumulative nature of taxes that frustrates people. For example (bare in mind this is from a UK perspective) we get charged up to 40% tax on income, then 20% tax on anything bought, then around 40% (I think, could be wrong) on money that WE OWN and want to pass onto our loved ones upon death and now you have to pay an effing Christmas tree tax! This is a fairly minimal tax, I can see people's anger with it when it's a fairly minimal tax to go alongside other taxes in a whole long stream of tax fuelled living. And you guys don't even get a free health service!

That's a lot of the uses of the word 'tax' in one paragraph.
