BMI online calculators are stupid, and do not stipulate to many individual variables.

But I am sure the BMI is great for profits.

I was reading one of Dave Tate's posts during his body transformation. he showed his bodyfat analysis. It showed his bodyfat at 7.5%, but also listed his BMI which was at the high end of obese. Pretty laughable.
I'd have to be like 170lb to be in the "normal" range. I eat people who weigh 170lb for breakfast.

In my observation BMI is fine for the general public that don't even look at weights.
It, like posted, don't take into consideration the variable of being solid and lifting. Just like how the hand held B/F calculators don't take in your sodium or water intake pre test.

Huh!! I don't believe these numbers. Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise are 200 lbers and Johnny Depp weighs 190 ?? Something's not right.

Gotta love this one, especially because so many people hold up tennis players as fitness ideals, while spouting the BMI carp in the same breath
![]() I think if someone dug up the #s for Boris Becker or Mark Philpoussis, they would fall in the same category as Roddick (possibly higher BMI). |

BMI is a joke. I was overweight when I was around 10-12%bodyfat and weighed all of around 74kg's. I was told by a doctor that 70kg's is the max weight for my height. I should go back to see him now at 105kg's and ask him what he thinks
I'm probably well into obese range. LtL

Some years ago, around 1987 (I think), they used to take a skinfold reading of the upper arm in addition to taking the person's weight; of course, it may just have been the health board of that specific area that did the two as a combined reading. But, it seems a lot better than the BMI alone.
Though, it's considered okay for those that don't workout/weight train, is it really? A person that lifts, though heavier, can be fitter because they have more muscle mass and less bodyfat, whereas a person who is sedentary will have more bodyfat than them yet fall in to the average category. IMO, that means the BMI does a disservice even to those that don't lift weights because it does not address their bodyfat levels (the ol' skinny fat, as we forever hear) and yet permits them to draw the conclusion that they are healthy if their measurements place them in the average category of their BMI, when they clearly may not be.

Vin Diesel 6’2″ 200 lbs 26
No way he is 6ft 2. (Not really point of thread though lol) Its like they use to list me at 6ft on rosters when I was playing. I am a lot closer to 5ft 10 than 6ft. BMI says that I am near death and must cut off my legs to even be close to healthy lol.
