Mr. Comrie's bill, which he is to introduce in the City Council on Wednesday, would restrict toys to meals that contain fewer than 500 calories and 600 milligrams of sodium, and in which less than 35 percent of the calories come from fat (making exceptions for nuts, seeds, peanut butter or other nut-based butters). In addition, the meal would have to contain a half a cup of fruit or vegetables or one serving of whole-grain products.

Maybe we will get in home scanners, and/or microchips on all food items so Big Brother can watch even more.

We will have to scan food and weigh it before we are allowed to use it.

If we only make enough rules all the world's problems will be solved. Less freedom for all!

micro chip our children and identity cards for the parents. It would be really good also if we just had to pay the governments and they send us the food we are allowed to eat for the day. No mroe supermarkets or capitalism. We could get rid of freedom of choice and speach too while were at it and the world would be much better off, just think we would all be equal... And we thought communism was dead !!

I think the macro nutrient profile criteria is pushing it but what do you expect... I find myself highly supportive of this plan however. Kids are not nutritional savants (should not be treated as such) and their perceptions of food are convoluted and distorted by the media/society enough. Tie this into the fact that your rewarding them with material gain whenever they consume a exorbitant meal (500+ calories in one sitting) which consists primarily of processed, and you've got yourself a recipe for obesity. Last time I checked happy meals are geared towards kids... I'd be hard pressed to produce one kid I know who still eats happy meals that should be taking in more than 500 calories of the stuff in one sitting.

I understand the don't give an inch mentality, sure... but these corporations are exploiting children and fielding them against the better judgement of their parents at the cost of the children's health and the parents mental well being.

Where does it end then?

Most every parent I know with children that are obese allow them to eat whatever they want, whenever they want. You can target Happy Meals, but they still sell chips and soda at the store.

Bad parents are bad parents.

When my kids want Happy Meals every night I say no. Furthermore, when they do get McDonalds they don't eat the complete meals 9 times out of 10 because they just want the toy. Even further, my kids just want to go to McDonalds to play in the playland. They could care less about the nuggets.

I, as a responsible parent, want Happy Meals. They are fun for my kids once a month. My kids are thin, happy, and have a fun toy.

Once we start down this road we open a door that won't be closed. I do not want my freedom taken away as a punishment for those parents who have their heads up their asses.

If we ban Happy Meals we should ban parks too! Once at the park, we are held hostage and forced to eat hot dogs and snow cones. It's the same faulty, misguided logic.

And when we couple all of this with an inane and inept government that pushes insane nutritional standards, like 11 pieces of white bread a day is considered healthy, what do we get? Look at the food currently served in schools. It's horrible! Pizza and fries and nuggets. I look at the government mandated school lunch menu each month and am shocked at the crap they serve.

I agree with Steve. You cant blame McDonalds for offering a kids toy in a meal for making a nation obese. The buck stops with the parent. The children dont buy the Happy meal the parents do. if the parents are so weak willed that they will give in to a child everytime they want a happy meal then I think they are the ones with the problem.

Why punsih the rest of the kids who only have a happy meal every now antd then, because some irresponsible, lazy adults cba to cook food for their kids more often or who cant say no. My kid have McD's now and again and they are not fat. Yeh they like the nuggets, burger or whatever, but they are more concerned with the toy. If i offered them McD's with the toy and 4 nuggets or 6 nuggets on a regular meal they'd still take the toy, but they shouldnt have the choice taken away and be punished just cos they like a burger !!

I dont think everyones choice should be taken away because of the minority. I mean where do you go from there, only letting the kids colour in TGI's if they order salad or other, more draconian measures....
