I have three right now which I keep coming back to:
Benedikt Magnusson for making the ridiculous look easy, for his psyche up and for being a modern day viking warrior The other two are a couple of guys who lift in my fed': Dean Mikosz (check him on YouTube: crazy strong 75kg's masters champion). I trained with Dean over Christmas and, schedules permitting, will be training with him again soon. Crazy strong, awesome stories, very helpful and a really good bloke. Paul McCafferty - World BDFPA Champion in the 82.5kg's class, destroyed me at regionals this year and I've been following his lifting since then. Very inspirational because he competes on my level, is English, is a little older than me and gives me a real target to go for. His British record squat is around 260kg's. That's where I want to be in 2 years time. I'll post some of their vid's in here later when I'm not at work. LtL

I am inspired by Tom Platz. Tom always worked hard despite less than perfect genetics, and maximized what he had.
![]() I want to look like a mini Mike Mentzer. Mike, in my opinion, had a near perfect physique.

This may sound self serving, But honestly 5 people and persons inspire me.
My grandfather who fought in ww2 and kick a shitload of ass in the south Pacific and myself..I come from good stock and thats what inspires I surprise my self being 37 and being able to work the way I work..Also all the soldiers I worked along side with in the sand box and other vets inspire me to do what I do. Then come the fighters that I train or have trained me.. And my mom, Who is 63 years old, Fighting lupis and is a head nurse at City of hope cancer hospital..She gets up every morning to head out to take care of the dying, while she is sick herself..If she can do that every morning at 3 to 3:00pm, then I can train my ass off. And to honest, I like the way I look, Naked I look ****en bad ass...And thats the god honest truth.

The persons whom inspire me are those who are physically handicapped in some fashion, but seem to have something moving inside them to achieve extraordinary heights that far exeeds those with much more. Much to examine and open the mind with. When I read about a person whom has no legs, but is performing a 1/2 marathon and has trained for months previously (and writing about the trials and tribulations in the training), makes my personal problems seem pathetic and baby-ish--at best. I want to peak into their world and see what they have inside them, and just maybe I can learn something, and take something away from it to improve myself.
Peace brothers.

Every time I see someone lifting more than me it add fuel to the flame... soo many people.
Probably Ed Coan if I had to choose one person?

You know, I had the pleasure to see some SERIOUSLY strong mofos compete last weekend here in Dallas, including Benedikt Magnusson (who DESTROYED the deadlift WR) and Brian Siders, who posted a 605 bench and a 775 deadlift (both RAW) to win the biggest total of the day. I was just thinking to myself that I'm so puny (lift-wise) compared to those guys.. and then I also realized that my deadlift has gone from nil to almost 500lbs in less than a year. Sooo, who knows, I may compete next year at this one just so I can say I got beat by Benni.
And if I had to say whose physique would I most like to emulate? That's easy.. Bill Kazmaier

I lift because I like it and it makes me feel good, but more importantly, I got serious about lifting in some ways because I want my 5 year old son to always think of me as someone that is strong, and that maybe he might want to be strong too, and I could help him achieve that.
He inspires me, and he may never lift a weight ever. On the other hand, my two year old younger daughter is butt strong right now. I bet she is the first President of any sex with a 300 pound clean! I wouldn't put it past her! She is tough. There you go. |

Some nice replies guys...
As we got on to the subject of non-loifting inspiration, id like to add my inspiration (outside of the lifting world), anyone that overcome serious adversity to not only lead a normal life, but to do things that 'normal' folk dont even do inspires me. Plus my wife and kids, I dont just want them to look at me and not be embarrassed i want them to look at me and be proud, and if my healthy living and training inspires them (or any one else) to try to lead a better life then thats fine by me ![]() Carl.

Nice post Carl. I think being a good example for our children drives a lot of us. I want my daughter to be able to boast about how strong her Dad is and how he is a champion powerlifter. I've been a champion Ultimate Frisbee player but I don't think that will carry the same weight on the playground
