Default Coaching for the Oly Lifts

Anyone who has read my log will know i starting to become a bit obsessed by the oly lifts.

I have googled around and i have found some fully qualified Oly Weightlifting Coaches (one of whom had worked with the British team) and they have a set up with bumper plates etc etc and it works out at £20.00 per hour.

What do you think ? Would it be worth a few hours of training with them, would it help my lifts that much or not ? I have always self coached from youtube and the forum to be honest so really dont know what to expect, but £20.00 per hour doesnt sound like much and I think it could be wothwhile ?

I would love to get to a stage where i was fairly proficient in say the snatch or the clean ?

Just unsure what to do, or if anyone had ever had any type of coaching and whether it was worthwhile.

Carl.

When I was coaching at a college I went to several seminars and all of them had some lecture or hands on training with Oly lifts since they are widely used amongst the strength and conditioning coaches for athletes. Each seminar I learned something new from whoever was heading up the session.

If you are really interested I would do it. It's much different from watchin youtube videos or reading books. I think it will be beneficial because there will be an eye on you hopefully improving your technique.

Thats the thing. i have never seem people Oly lift in person and no one has really watched my form, It feels like Im doing the Clean right, but thats just looking in the mirror.

The more i read about them the more carry over they seem to have with lifting in general, and especially generating power.

I just think if i could get the technique right on them it would help all round in the rest of my lifts and training in general... Plus they just look cool

If you want to learn them, get coached. You'll love it.

Carl, my understanding of the Oly lifts is that if you want to learn them and perform them correctly you pretty much HAVE to have a qualified coach. If the guys really know what they're doing, then £20 for an hour's lesson definitely sounds reasonable. Give it a shot and have fun with it

There's also a DVD called Complete Olympic Lifting which you might want to look into. I haven't seen it but it does appear to have good reviews.
