Great post D!
Im with this guy all the way, theres nothing wrong in having a program to follow but i rarely have, and havent been able to follow one for more than a month, ever i think hehe. I rarely have a plan when i go to the gym, except for maybe one lift that i feel like doing. Max effort bench 2 days in a row? Well if i feel like it i do it haha

yea i know what you mean swede, i have an idea of what i'm going to do but sometimes when i get into the gym things sometimes get out of hand. I think the main thing is that you just have to be honest with yourself.

I've trained more free form. I think you certainly can once you learn your body, and have expectations for the various lifts.
Many days in 2010 I just did what I wanted. Once you know yourself training can become more like "playing." It's quite freeing, but certainly not something younger lifters should mimic.

I know I've had sessions where I just alter what I had intended doing and end up doing either loads of deadlifts or clean and press, and thoroughly enjoyed them.
