It was great watching that: Frye's recovery was skilled. They traded in equal measure, then Tank's own gut put him off balance and Frye went in for the choke.

Too many great bouts to pick just one. I was leaning towards some Gracie action, but I do like some of the newer and in-between fighters as well. I can say this, no fight at UFC 118 would qualify. I got free tix to that, and it sucked ass. I literally almost fell asleep watching a couple of the fights that night.
I used to like Tank Abbot, but as the sport progressed towards more structure people realized the guy was just tough enough to take a beating and keep throwing punches and elbows. He never had any real fighting skill. I'm not saying I would fight him, even now...but I know people 1/4 his size that would have him knocked out and broken in less than 30 seconds. As for Brock, he's close to the same path...but, he is actually getting more skilled with each fight. That pink-haired kid got lucky as shit, plain and simple. I would have demanded a rematch with anger and fury if that was me, and then let the kid know his show was over. Nowadays, I try to catch any fights with those I like to watch: Brock Lesnar, Liddel, Faber, Henderson*, GSP.. I put the * next to Henderson, because well..he just got KTFO off the fence.. still a good fighter, but not a good fight for him...

Maybe, if I was there, I would have punched him a good one while he was down. Then run like hell. I've dug up UFC 43 for tonight's viewing - not seen it before. Tank Abbott is on the card, but haven't gotten to his fight yet. And Liddell fights Couture too - also not seen it yet. EDIT: Ho SHIT!!! Tank fights Kimo in this one!!! This better be good... EDIT EDIT: Hahahahahaaaaaa so short. So simple. Suck it Tank. Last edited by Abaddon; 12-30-2010 at 12:45 PM. |

Pierre's kick to Miller's face the second he tried to leap to his feet = GOLD.
Not completely one-sided, but pretty close. Fortunately, Miller was slippery enough to keep it going the full 15 minutes. Some of the most athletic strikes I've ever seen were deployed in this fight! |

Silva went toe-to-toe with a rejuvenated Franklin, and still dominated him from the first round!
Franklin was a tough sonofabitch, but still ended up a punching bag. Andersen Silva is another superb fighter, and this being one of his finest displays deserves a top-10 listing. IMO. |

Mark Coleman vs Shogun Rua
The intrepid vintage heavyweight of old returns to the octagon after about 15 years - this time steroid free. And, true to classic form, Coleman ultimately proves one thing: he is still a physical specimen. With no cardio. The fight took a slower pace compared with the others taking place that night in Dublin, as Hua - seemingly in sympathy for the long-retired heavyweight champion - was out of breath himself before the 2nd round was done! It was 3 rounds of slow, loping swings and kicks, with heavy jabs and generally a lot of mediocrity. The fight also went to the judges, who predictably gave their decision to Rua. But I don't care. Seeing Coleman back in action is enough to fit this one somewhere in my top 10.

Matt Hughes vs BJ Penn II.
Why? Because it was a nail biter from start to finish, and it showed why Hughes is the greatest MMA champion of all time. His second fight with Trigg is right up there. Last edited by Trevor Ross; 02-05-2011 at 03:37 PM. |

Brilliant knock out!!
Based on this performance, I possibly need to change my opinion of Silva's 5 round song & dance fiasco against Tiago Alvez (?) Maybe he just didn't want to mess with the scheduling by destroying Alvez too quickly...? Joke. That was a stupid fight. But I am a great fan of Andersen - and this further demonstrates why! I should start a separate thread for UFC's greatest knockouts perhaps, coz that one is already in the top 10!! |
