computer infected. help!

all of the sudden there's something titled "security tool". it wont let me open most programs and it just generally sucks.

to get rid of it, i tried uninstalling it, but couldnt find it to uninstall it.
then i did a system's restore but when it started up it said it wasnt able to restore. i did that multiple times.

anybody know how i could get rid of this?

Sounds like it's ****ed. You might need to slide your improtant files to an external HD and bring your PC back to factory dude. Then load the stuff from the ext. HD back on.

Yeah man... I got the same thing a few months back. I had to wipe and reload everything. Thankfully, I kept my personel data on a seperate partition of the hard drive, so that was unaffected. Worst part was the time it took to reinstall Windows and all the device drivers, and then set all my configurations. For now, leave it off. The longer it runs, the worse it will get. You will need to scan the disk through another machine if you can. Or you can look for a bootable rescue disk that can clean the infection.

This is a nasty virus for sure, it hit a lot of people. I can't remember what I suggested to a friend who had the same thing. I'll look it up when I get home and PM you what I can find..

Regardless of if we can save your data or not, you need a very good Anti-Virus program. I highly, highly recco either AVG or Avast. Both have free editions that update daily, and include AV, spyware blockers, email scanners and all the other good things you want in an AV program...

I get out of work at 3pm, and will be busy until around 5 or 6pm est, then I'll see what I can find....

Just checked with my friend. He said it's malware and, basically, this ^^.

No no no! You don't need to back anything up and start over.

Are you familiar with msconfig? Here's where you disable as much ugly stuff as possible. Click Start>Run then type msconfig then click OK. You DO have to be careful though not to disable important stuff. Look at the paths of the files and you'll know what it belongs to. If it looks funny, it probably is. If you aren't comfortable at all....skip this.

You'll need to reboot afterwards. If it boots back up, Right-click on My Computer and choose properties. Go to the System Restore tab and put a check where it says to Disable System Restore.

Go here and download (red link):
ATF-Cleaner.exe - www.atribune.org
Select all after you run it and let it clean your temp files

Then go to:
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com
Let it update and then do a quick scan. Then proceed


Then go here with Internet Explorer:
Free Online Scanner - Online Virus Scanner | F-Secure

or

Free Online Virus Scan | BitDefender Online Scanner (any browser)
