When I was 8 I remember my teacher telling me that when I was an adult, everything would be in the Metric system. That didn't work out as planned.

I would have been about the same age (same era) and we were the starting "block" being tutored in metric but it really doesn't work if you've been brought up with a different system and if they don't take the old system out, then they can't really enforce the next one fully.

For example: we can buy, and actually do own, a set of scales that we can either have in lbs/kgs/stones and for the most part I leave it in stones because it's more meaningful to me where my bodyweight is concerned; otherwise I just end up having to convert for it to "mean" something other than just being a digit. It's weird, actually, thinking about it.

It should be. You can't be surprised that the rest of the world thinks of Americans as arrogant when we are the only ones who refuse to use the system that every other country in the world uses.

That makes sense. To me, 500lb is heavy. It's a heavy person or a heavy lift. 50lb is kind of heavy if it's a box I have to carry, but a light lift, unless I'm doing dumbell isolation stuff. I understand lb, it makes sense to me.

The same is true of other things. I understand MPH and temperature in degrees F. If it's in another form it won't make sense until I change it.

There is toilet paper. But one of my girls misses the bowl half the time.

Have to love little kids.

Honestly I've been getting a bit better at it, but I still have to convert kilos to pounds for them to make full sense to me. Fahrenheit no thank you lol.
