Nope, we did have a fireplace on Stronsay at a place that was built in the 1600s or before; and on Flotta, a more modern place but not here.

Nope, this small area is non-open fire (privately owned and otherwise); and the Orkney Islands Council are making more places that way.

If the temperature ever gets drastic, we can always drain the hot water tank into water bottles and head to bed.

If need be though, it's a backup plan.

When we lived on Flotta, the electric went down for 3 days because a cable under the Pentland Firth (a bad stretch of sea) got damaged and it was the electric cable to the islands of Flotta and Hoy.

Thankfully we had an open fire which also had a back boiler, so the house was heated as well via the fireplace. Since the food was just going to go off, in 3 days with no electric, we invited the neighbours around to eat up the burgers, which we cooked in a frying pan over the coals in the fireplace...we also placed a whistling kettle on it to get hot drinks.

Oh goodie, thunder as well; thought I heard it earlier...if it gets too close/bad, I'll be logging off for a while.

I'm okay with it but the electrics, maybe not...
