Cool Does anyone know the Answer?

Friends,

Does anyone know how many Square Pounds can be packed into one Centigrade Degree without Noticeably Altering the Modulus of Elasticity?

How does the Equation Change if I use Troy Units and/or Fahrenheit or Kelvin?

I've not heard of modus of elasticity. I assume you meant modulus of elasticity?

The modulus of elasticity is determined by looking at the slope of the curve comparing stress to strain. Wikipedia states this formula is measured in Pascals. Stress is deformation compared to area of stress applied. Strain is a ratio that compares the change to the original state.

Wouldn't the answer to your question hinge on the modulus of elasticity of the specific substance?

The question is not clear to me. Modulus of elasticity is a ratio of stress to strain. Pounds is an unit of mass. Centigrade degree is an unit of temperature. In a physical sense you can't pack mass into temperature, so it would help if you restate the question clearly and provide some physical context.

If you are talking about stresses that can be accommodated during thermal expansion, then you can first calculate the strain due to the expansion from a 1 degree centigrade rise in temperature. For this, you need to know the coefficient of thermal expansion. Once you know the strain, given that modulus of elasticity is not altered, you can calculate the stress, which will be in terms of pound-force per unit area.

few things to note - "pounds" is an unit of mass. "pound force" is the unit of force. Stress is force per unit area. Pound force is simply pounds multiplied by the acceleration due to gravity (9.8 m/seconds squared or 32 ft/seconds squared).

How the value changes with the units is based on how the units are related. Centigrade - Kelvin. The value of 1 degree change in centigrade is same as in Kelvin. Only difference - the value of "zero" is reset. 273 Kelvin is same as zero degree C. 1 degree change in centigrade units corresponds to 1.8 degree change in Fahreheit units. But again, the "zero" is reset, 32 Fahrenheit corresponds to zero degrees C.

Cool

You're right BtB.

Its supposed to be a Joke—messing up units in a Nonsensical Way.

Humor...

A farmer has some chickens who won't lay any eggs. The farmer calls a physicist to help. The physicist does some calculations and says "I have a solution but it only works for spherical chickens in a vacuum."
