Default Help with new Pulley Machine

Hello everyone, I was recommended here by Steve, and he told me to shoot this question on the forums for some guaranteed help, so here it goes.

i acquired a cable pulley system, lat Pulldown, seated row, etc. the cables are a little rough. Any advice on how to get them to pull smoother? Couple guys recommended putting different types of slick on the cables but I don't want to do that if its going to mess it up.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have a similar set up in my gym. Try this.

There is a metal bar that runs through the selectorized plates, the same bar that you stick the pin through when you change the weights for your set.
Spray an old rag with WD-40, and clean that bar.

You can also replace the cables if they are really bent up, but I would try cleaning the bar first.

The first thing I would do is re check all of the racks / bars / pins etc.
Bad alignment is the normal culprit for travel resistance in a pulley system. If the exterior frame is level ( use a level or a laser to check) and all of the pulleys are aligned ( straight edge / device aligned- not sight aligned) then the next option would be a dry spray lubricant. There are many options out there. Teflon, Graphite, Synthetic, etc....

After that you just have to wait for the cables and pulleys to "seat" themselves over time. Once that happens they tend to travel a bit more freely.
